The southwest area of Western Australia, including the Perth Region, is renowned for its amazing richness and diversity of flora, with around 9000 plant species, of which most are unique to W.A. The great profusion of wildflowers during the spring months in particular offers something very special and unique to bushwalking in this region and on its own is a great incentive to get walking! Even though wildflowers are at their peak from August to October, a large number of plants, such as the Verticordias (feather flowers) and many of the Eucalypt and Banksia trees, and orchids, also flower outside the peak spring period. The photos on these Wildflower pages show just a small selection of the many wildflowers to be seen on the walks in the Perth Region. The flowers are arranged in alphabetical order by scientific name. This is not intended to be a wildflower identification guide. |
